Lentil

We looked at the United States in My Father’s World Exploring Countries and Cultures.  Lentil is a FIAR book we added to our studies.

Lentil takes place in Alto Ohio.  It’s a cute story about a boy who learns of a talent he has, and his harmonica playing saves the day.

Lapbook

Big Ladybug did a Lentil lapbook.  We looked at Ohio and the national anthem, pledge of allegiance, and other patriotic songs.

Music

036

She just so happened to be learning to play “Comin’ Round the Mountain” which fit in nicely with this row. She had fun playing and singing it.

The kids also had a great time wondering around the house fighting over playing the harmonica.

Art

We discussed architecture and looked at buildings in our town.

The pictures in the book are all black and white drawings, so I purchased some charcoals for our art project.  We were going to sketch a building, but she passed on that and chose to draw the dog in the book.

Science

We discussed sound and how it moves through vibration.  The kids had fun playing with the tin can telephones we made.

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World

As we travel the world Exploring Countries and Cultures, we are going to try to fit in some Five In A Row along the way.

We laid the world map out as we read the book and added the story disks I printed from All Of A Kind Family.

She really enjoys working on the lapbooks. I got most of our ideas from Homeschool Share.

(I also printed this from All of A Kind Family.)

We also discussed the book and the use of humor the author added through it.

You can check out the apple study we did last fall here.

Big Ladybug’s favorite part….making the apple pie, and of course eating it!
