MFW ECC Weeks 29&30: Russia

 

 

Here are our highlights from Russia.

Cooking: We made some Russian apple pie.  We decided that is was ok, but we would stick with our version of apple pie.

MFW ECC: Weeks 19 & 20 Kenya

We are finishing up our stay in Kenya and here are some of our highlights.

Bible: 

  1. Continued reading in the book of Matthew
  2. Read about missionaries David Livingstone and Samuel Morris.

 

Geography: 

  1. Big Ladybug enjoys making her vocabulary illustrations.
  2. Completed geography worksheets.

Science:

  1. Grasslands: plants and animals of Kenya
  2. Animal Study: Studied cheetahs, lapbook from Homeschool Share,  and watched the movie Duma.

Cooking:

  1. Tapioca Pudding with Pineapples………yum!!

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things: MFW Weeks 16 & 17 Germany

 

Well I had to dust off my keyboard…………..kinda had an unplanned hiatus from blogging over the holidays.

 

We returned to school and had a smooth transition back into the routine.  We traveled to Germany and here are some brief highlights.

Bible:  Missionary studies and character traits of Martin Luther and John Wesley.

 

Science:

1. Read about lakes/ponds, and freshwater plants and animals.

2. Learned about the parts of a river in Beginning Geography workbook.

3.  Researched about turtles.

Cooking:  We made potato pancakes and the girls loved them!

And it has gotten pretty cold here, so we have been trying to stay warm :0)

MFW ECC Highlights: Weeks 14 & 15 France

 

We finished our travels through France and here are some of our highlights.

 

Bible:  missionaries in Hero Tales and their character traits.

  1.      Menno Simons and his outlook on peace.

 

 

    William Tyndale, the man who gave us the English Bible.

 

 

Science:

  1. Caves:  Watched a great Planet Earth video.
  2. Looked at how animals adapt and defend themselves.

 

Geography:

  1. France
  2. Eiffel Tower (we also toured the tower through YouTube videos and saw how amazing it looks at night!)

The kids had a great time eating and making marshmallow and toothpick towers.

  • art: rosemaling for the girls…..Viking hats for the boys
  • Watching Linnea’s rosemaling tutorials on YouTube really helped to learn the technique of Rosemaling.  Freehand and Freehand Flowers.

MFW ECC Highlights: Week 9 Brazil

 

 

Flag_of_B...We are traveling through Brazil this week focusing on the tropical rainforest and the creatures that live there.

 

We added to our Around the World Lapjournal.

Geography:

  • located Brazil on the map 
  • discussed the different biomes of South America
  • learned the difference between a hill and a mountain and the correct terms for each. (we really like the Beginning Geography workbook).

Science: 

  • Read The Great Kapok Tree and did rainforest lapbook. (printed from Homeschool Share)
  • Made 3-D rainforest from Rod and Staff Hearing and Helping fun workbook.
  • My kids really enjoyed the National Geographic Totally Tropical Rain Forest dvd

Bible:

  • Continued reading in the book of Matthew
  • Verse:  Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden”

ECC Co-op:

  • made art inspired by South/Central America (I lead the art for co-op and I didn’t care for any of the suggested art projects from Brazil, so we opted to do a different one from the Global Art book from the South and Central America section.)

    1. pick out 2 or 3 fabric pieces to cover a piece of cardboard.
    2. staple or tape them on.
    3. draw a design on the fabric with chalk
    4. use your scissors to cut through the layers of fabric to make your art (you just need to make sure you are only going through the layers you want to cut.)

 

  007The kids seemed to really enjoy this project.
