MFW ECC Highlights: Weeks 7 & 8 Canada

“Hello” from Canada and “Ainngai” (spelled ᐊᐃᓐᖓᐃ) from Inuktitut!

 

  Inuktitut or Eastern Canadian Inuktitut/ Eastern Canadian Inuit language is the name of some of the Inuit languages spoken in Canada.

The past 2 weeks we have been traveling through Canada. We took a look at Canada and the Inuit people or Eskimos of Northern Canada.  We found this to be very interesting and really enjoyed our studies….. here are our highlights!

Canadian Fun:

 

  • Lapbook: Very Last First Time – This book takes place in Ungava Bay of Eastern Canadian. (lapbook printed from homeschool share)

  • Art – inspired by Very Last First Time.  Pointillist artistic style is art made up of hundreds of tiny dots of paint.

  • Ice Sculpture- everyone’s fingers are dyed, but the girls had fun with it.  (idea from Expedition Earth)

  • Canadian Baked Blueberry Dessert- We served ours with vanilla yogurt… yum!

  • Working together in teams: Monica, our co-op science leader, had the kids work in teams to read over and complete the science experiments together.  It worked out well.

Did you know???

  • They think Canada has almost 1,000,000 lakes!! One of them in Manitoba is named Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik Lake! It's a Native Cree name that literally means: "where the wild trout are caught by fishing with hooks." (www.ecokids.ca)

MFW ECC Highlights Weeks 5 & 6 Mexico

Hola from Mexico!!  We have been traveling through Mexico and here are our highlights.

 

We are adding our airline tickets, paper dolls, money, etc. to our lap-n-scrap book.

  Bible:

  • Read from the book of Matthew
  • We learned what it means to be an ambassador of Christ and that our citizenship is in Heaven!
  • Praying for the people of Cuba and Haiti

Memory Verses:

  • Matthew 4:4 “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” 
  • Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

  • Discussed cold blooded animals and how they cope with the desert temperatures.

Every time we went to do our ice experiment, it was rainy or cold…so we just discussed how desert animals burrow or stay in the shade to stay cooler.

MFW Highlights: ECC week #4 Goodbye United States!

 

We finished our travels through the United States!

Bible Highlights

  • Memory Verse:  Matthey 1:23-  Immanuel means ‘God is with us.’
  • People Group: Navajo Indians
  • Missionary:  Harriett Tubman.  We discussed the underground railroad and what slavery was.
  • Character traits:  Joy, Perseverance, and Compassion.
  • Missionary character trait notebooking pages (from Mama Jenn)
  • Made Matthew bookmark (from All of a Kind Family)

We drew the forest layers.  It was fun, and I hope it helps us remember them a little better.  I got this idea from 2 love learning.
