MFW 1st Grade: Week #17

 DSC02582

Well our Little Lizard has moved to one nap a day, instead of two, so we have had to switch around our school schedule a little.  Big Ladybug and I now get one-on-one time in the afternoon when the babies naps overlap.

Bible:  A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.  ~Proverbs 11:25

This week she learned about Moses.  A Baby in a Basket and The Burning Bush.  Here are the lovely pictures she drew in her Bible Notebook.

2nd Grade: Finding God's Promises (Teacher's Guide)

We also added a resource to our Bible time, 2nd Grade Finding God’s Promises.  It  is a Bible curriculum that studies the life of Moses through the Book of Exodus.   Not only do we discuss the stories, but we look at the promises God made, and how we can demonstrate the character traits that he wants us to.   The students answer questions using scripture, understand biblical vocabulary, and there are fun puzzles and bright colorful workbook pages!

It’s not that I felt MFW was lacking, but this was available for us to borrow, and it has been a great addition to our daily Bible.

Discoverer's Bible for Young Readers-NIRV-Large Print by Zonderkidz, 9780310703822

Big Ladybug received the NIrV Discoverer's Bible for Young Readers for Christmas and we have put it to use!  She loves looking up the stories and reading from her new Bible.

With these new additions, Big Ladybug is now reading God’s Word and learning to apply it to her everyday life.   She is looking at character traits through the lives of those in the Bible, and learning how to practice that character quality.

At first I thought that adding these may be doing to much, but she is enjoying it!   She is learning how our actions really affect those around us, and how we should be working to please God

Science:  This week she learned about floating.  She already had a pretty good understanding of this, but we had a great time!

Big Ladybug had been collecting items throughout the week that she wanted to add to the experiment.

Then we filled some glass bowls with water and they took turns guessing if they thought the item would sink or float.  Little Ladybug tried her best not to play in the water………but she couldn’t resist!

We made a chart as we went of what the results were.  The girls (which included our neighbor :) had a great time!

Did you know??

Buoyancy of an object does not depend on the weight at all whether it floats or it sinks.  Floating and sinking depends on how much amount of water an object can displace in order to float.
