Kathi at A Heart Like Water is on spring break this week…..YEAH for her!!!!  So I am guest hosting My Father’s World Homeschool Highlights this week.

On to our weekly wrap-up:

Little Ladybug now wants to do her “school work” on a regular basis.  She worked in her Kumon activity books, practicing gluing and cutting :0)

Esther

esther

King Xerxes of Persia became angry at his wife, so he kicked her out and searched for a new one.  Esther was beautiful and the king chose her.  However, Esther was a Jew and she kept this a secret from the king.

Esther learned that the king's official Haman had a plan to kill all the Jews.  She was afraid to go to the king to ask that he save the Jews from this horrific event.

She waited for the right time and trusted in God before presenting her request to the king.  The king was happy to grant her wish and ordered the evil Haman to be put to death.

Celebrating Purim

We celebrated the Jewish holiday of Purim (POOR-im).  The Jewish people set aside two days a year to celebrate this law that saved the Jews.

We celebrated it by dressing as Queen Esther and making hamantaschen (HUM-men-tash-en) cookies.  They have 3 corners like Haman’s hat and have a filling.  We chose apricots for our filling.

Big Ladybug liked dressing up as her Hello Kitty version of Queen Esther.

The Jewish People Return Home

rebuild Jerusalem

The Jewish people had been in Babylon for 70 years when God let them return to Israel.  Jerusalem and the protective walls around it needed to be rebuilt.

The Samaritians were not pleased that the Jews were rebuilding so they insulted them and wanted to fight them.  The Jews prayed to God to protect them as they rebuilt their city, and He did.

Science:  Science with Plants

We began our new science book this week.

018

Big Ladybug looked at beans and how they are seeds.  She soaked them in water so she could look at the insides.  She also couldn’t resist making art from them.037

She set up these two jars with dried kidney beans with the hope that they germinate and some bean plants grow.

Easter Art

The girls love to paint so they really enjoyed using watercolors to make a stained glass Easter cross from Crafty Classroom.

Did you know????

Some kinds of raw beans and especially red and kidney beans, contain a harmful toxin (the lectin Phytohaemagglutinin) that must be destroyed by cooking. A recommended method is to boil the beans for at least ten minutes; undercooked beans may be more toxic than raw beans
