Tree of Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for.

To demonstrate how blessed we are, the kids made a tree of thanks.

It was cute to see the differences between a 7-year-old and 3-year-olds idea of what they are thankful for.

MFW ECC Highlights: Weeks 12 &13 Norway

 

 

We traveled through Norway the past two weeks, and here are some of our highlights.

 

 

 

 

Bible:  continued reading in the book of Matthew

 

 

 

 

Science:

• coniferous forests
• animal focus:  Chipmunk
• nature study: Fall Colors….check it out here.

 

ECC Co-op:

• science: map a forest area

 

• art: rosemaling for the girls…..Viking hats for the boys
• Watching Linnea’s rosemaling tutorials on YouTube really helped to learn the technique of Rosemaling.  Freehand and Freehand Flowers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

• cooking:  fruit soup…..yum!

OHC Autumn 2011: Fall Colors

 

 

 

 The kids and I went on a fall nature walk to observe and collect the different leaves.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Big Ladybug loves to blend her colored pencils to make different colors.  So we decided to try to blend the colors to match the leaves. 

 

 

 

The kids then used the leaves to have some more art fun.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was a great day to get outside and enjoy the sun!

MFW ECC Highlights: Weeks 10 & 11 Brazil

 

 

“Olá!”  The last two weeks we have been traveling through Brazil and here are our highlights.

 

Bible:

• Continued reading in the book of Matthew.
• Read about missionary Nate Saint and his airplane travels and experiences with the Auca Indians.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Geography:

• Enjoyed playing the geography game….we are getting pretty good at it!

 

Science:

• Animal Focus:  Big Ladybug picked the sloth to learn more about. 
• Enjoyed reading more about the rainforest.

 

Art:

• Rainforest thumbprint art….printed from 1+1+1=1.  We didn’t have washable ink pads, so the girls just colored their fingertips with washable markers, it worked well.

 

 

Cooking:

• Brigaderirous cookies….rather chewy, but the kids liked them.
• Whipped avocados…..yum!

 

 

 

 

 

ECC CO-OP: 

• Harvest Party with some pumpkin carving and a lot of fun!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Tchau” (chow) Brazil……we are off to Norway!

OHC Autumn 2011: Pear and Apple Study

 

The kids at our  ECC co-op completed an Outdoor Hour Challenge from Handbook of Nature Study blog.

The kids were split the into 3 teams. Each team received 5 different varieties of fruit: 2 pears and 3 apples.  They could choose which 2 to study for their challenge.

The kids had a great time comparing and eating their specimens!
