One of my sister’s great childhood friends, and fellow Christian homeschooling mom to 5, is a finalist in the Macy’s Million Dollar Makeover!!!  Her name is Julie and she has a great story!  If you would like to read more, and get the chance to help her fulfill her dream, check out my sister’s post at Discover Their Gifts.

Also, starting this week, Kathi at A Heart Like Water is now hosting My Father’s World weekly wraps for all that would like to share their week’s adventures.  Jump on over and check it out!

Wrap Up for Week #22

Bible: Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. ~Proverbs 29:25

Samson and Delilah

Samson had incredible strength that was a gift from God.  He was entrusted with the secret that his strength came through his hair, and that he should never cut it, or tell anyone his secret.

Well, the poor man fell in love with a Philistine named Delilah.  The Philistines hated Samson because he was their enemy and made problems for them.  The Philistines made a deal with Delilah, they would give her some silver in exchange for finding out the secret to Samson’s great strength.  It took some time, but after her continual seduction, tears, and nagging Samson gave in and told her.  (Poor guy was blinded by his lust.)

While he was sleeping, Delilah cut his hair and he became very weak.  She allowed the Philistines in her home to capture him.

They gouged out his eyes and put him in prison.  However, they let his hair grow back.  One day they paraded their prisoners in the temple and tied Samson to the pillars.  He turned to God and with his strength broke the pillars and the temple came crashing down killing Samson and all the celebrating Philistines.

What did we learn?

We all fail and sin, it is never to late to turn to God.

The girls each made their own set of Samson and Delilah paper dolls that I printed off the internet.

We discussed the strength that God gave Samson.  Big Ladybug made this recipe card about the strengths God blessed her with.

I got this video from the library and Big Ladybug read the Now I Can Read Bible Stories: Samson the Strong Man.

David and Goliath

The Philistines were at war with Israel and they had a giant solider measuring over 9 feet tall, named Goliath.  For 40 days he taunted the Israelite army for someone to stand up and fight him.  King Saul and his army were very frightened of Goliath, no one wanted to stand up to fight him.

One day, a boy named David came to the Israelite army camp to see his brothers.  He heard the giant insulting them and their God. David was surprised no one would fight him.

Even though David was a boy, he wanted to fight Goliath because he knew he had the power of God behind him.  He killed Goliath with his sling shot and stone, and was greatly rewarded by King Saul.  He married the king’s daughter and his family never had to pay taxes again.  He went on to become a great king.

(I love the Goliath she drew!)

What did we learn?

That with God backing you, the impossible is possible!

She made a Lyre out of a plastic coat hanger and some rubber bands.  This represented David’s love for singing and playing musical instruments.  (I think she expected it to sound more musical than some rubber bands snapping :)

We also had the option to make a shepherd's bag like David used to carry his lunch as a shepherd boy.  However, we did not get the chance to.  So hop on over to see the great shepherd’s bag that Amanda and her son made at Homegrown & Beeyoutiful.

We got some videos from the library. Bugtime Adventures A Giant Problem and VeggieTales Dave and the Giant Pickle.

Big Ladybug was also read the book: The Terrible Giant.

Science with Water: Mixing Water

065

We filled 6 jars with water so that she could add different things to them to see how they mixed.  She used Jell-O powder, shampoo, cooking oil, dirt, sugar, and Oxyclean.

067

She had a lot of fun with this science experiment.  When she was finished she decided to mix them all together in one big bowl and add the rest of the Jell-O mix for some color.  When she was finished she actually wanted to taste it……………eewww!!

-Facts about Clovers

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14!

  • One estimate suggests that there are about 10 000 regular three-leaf clovers for every lucky four-leaf clover.
  • Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.
